Welcome To Class 2
Teachers: Mrs Crabbe
HLTA: Mrs Kendall
TAs: Miss Dale
We ask that you listen to your child read every night as it really helps to build fluency and develop vocabulary. Children have a list of spellings to learn each week and some times tables.
PE lessons take place on Monday and Friday afternoons this half term.
Year 2 children will be taking their SATs tests during the week commencing 22nd May 2017.
Class 2 have PE scheduled for Thursday, so please make sure children have their P.E kits in school. We also have swimming this half term on Friday mornings so children will need a swimming costume or trunks and towel in a bag.
As part of becoming more responsible for their own learning, children in Class 2 will be encouraged to look after their belongings and prepare for school independently. This may mean making sure they have their reading book in their bag or making sure they have remembered to bring in their homework on time (Friday).
"My Mum didn't give me my bag" will not be accepted as an excuse!!!
I hope all parents/guardians will support us in helping to develop this independence and responsibility within our children.
In English this Spring half Term we will be looking at letter writing and writing non fiction reports abouts animals.
We will also be working on our SPaG work through our weekly 'Grammar Hammer' exercises.
In maths we are focusing on number, shape, money and time. We are also continuing to do weekly skills checks which allows us to revise strategies and areas of maths on a weekly basis. We will focus on strategies and how to use them across a range of question types.
You can help your child by practising telling the time using an analogue clock and counting money and working out change.
It is more important than ever that Year 2 sharpen their mental skills and crack their times tables! By this we mean learning the whole multiplication fact, not just the answer, e.g. 2x10=20. This will help in countless areas of maths and speed up the activities we do.
During the Spring Term our topic will be Animals including humans and their habitats. Within this topic the children will learn about animals, habitats, basic needs of survival for animals and humans as well as identifying and naming a variety of common animals. They will also be watching our own caterpillars transform into butterflies.
