General class information

My name is Mrs Marshall and I will be teaching year 3 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Miss Corbett will be teaching the class on Monday and Friday.  We are both assisted by the lovely Miss Casey and Mrs Robinson.'

Year 3 is a really important year as the children transition for Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2.  We take a wide range of approaches to learning, helping the children to become used to some of the more formal and independent ways to work that are expected as they get older.

Children should be bringing home their reading book every day and reading with an adult 4-5 times per week. Reading at home counts as part of homework expectations and will be reflected in Pupil Profiles.  Reading books are set according to the level we think will move them on in their reading skills most effectively and regularly reviewed.  It really makes a difference to a child's learning if an adult reads with them each day and discusses what they have read.

Homework will normally be given out on a Friday, to be returned to school by the following Wednesday. Homework will consist of Assertive Mentoring sheets with our focus spelling patterns and times tables. They are designed to support the children's learning in school and to be checked by them or a parent.

The children will be expected to take part in PE on a Thursday and on a Friday, during the Spring and Summer term we will be going swimming.  Please can you ensure that your children have their PE kits at school in their lockers throughout each term and their swimming costume and towel every Friday.
